Medical Microbiology is a clinical laboratory branch in which all biological samples belonging to the patient are examined for the diagnosis, differential diagnosis, prevention, protection, treatment and monitoring of diseases caused by microorganisms in human beings and to monitor antimicrobial drug resistance. Natural and unique immune response markers against microorganisms are also studied in the laboratories of the Medical Microbiology department.
The Medical Microbiology laboratory plays an important role in the diagnosis and control of infectious diseases. Guiding the diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases, blood, urine, stool, sputum, wound, etc. Helps other disciplines by doing microbiological analysis in clinical samples.
The laboratory's ability to perform these functions is directly related to the quality of the sample taken from the patient. For example, it is very important in this sense to take it from the appropriate place, at the appropriate time, in the appropriate amount, and to deliver it to the laboratory in the appropriate time and under suitable conditions.
The Medical Microbiology specialist ensures that all tests are run and reported accurately and on time in the samples requested by the clinics and sent to the units to which they are responsible, while monitoring the correct and timely results of the tests performed outside the hospital laboratory. All details regarding the timely and correct running and reporting of the tests; It is the responsibility of the Medical Microbiology specialist to obtain the necessary kits, devices, consumables, to make internal and external quality controls, and to keep records of them.
In our hospital's Microbiology Department laboratories:
ASO, CRP, RF, IgG, IgA, IgM, Total IgE, C3 and C4 tests are studied by nephelometric method. For this purpose, there are 2 nephelometer devices in our laboratory.
Brucella Rose Bengal, Brusella Wright Agg, Cyst Hydatid IHA, RPR tests are studied by manual methods.
The ANA test is studied with the IFA method. For this purpose, there is 1 IFA microscope in our laboratory.
HBsAg, HBsAb, HIVAb, HCVAb are studied by microeliza method. For this purpose, there are 5 microeliza devices in our laboratory.
Blood culture One automated blood culture system with a capacity of 200 bottles is studied.
Identification and antibiogram are working in 1 automated culture antibiogram system with 100 test capacity.
Our spermogram laboratory is working with 1 automated spermogram device.
In the bacteriology laboratory Helicobacter pylori Ag, Legionella spp. Ag, Clostridium difficile toxin A-B tests, cell counting, dyed-unpainted microscopic examinations, cultivation and evaluation of cultures are performed manually.
Annually about 700 thousand tests up examination performed in our laboratory, because of some devices and kits cost, on-site work to external laboratory service purchases for tests that can notbe done in our laboratory, while for some of infectious agents samples are sent to Turkey Public Health Agency laboratory.
E N T CLINIC
WORK PLACE :
We provide services for both inpatient and outpatient in clinics, operating rooms and Audiology Unit units.
Service: Our department has 44 beds. There are 8 rooms for with 2 beds and 7 rooms with 4 beds with a toilet bathroom. There are 2 wounds caring and dressing rooms where the hospitalizations, examinations and wound dressings are performed. There are 2 responsible nurses, 14 nurses, 2 dressing officers, 11 servants and 3 secretaries in our clinic. According to 2018 data, the total number of patients admitted to our service is 4176, the occupancy rate of the service is 77.4% and the average length of hospital stay is 4 days.
Polyclinics:
Outpatient clinic services are provided in 11 units, 6 outpatient clinics in Dışkapı central building, 3 outpatient clinics in Mevki building and 1 for health board , also 1 in Hasköy District polyclinics.
A total of 5 dressings and material attendants accompany the examinations in the outpatient clinics. Routine ENT examination in our polyclinics is carried out using current diagnostic methods. Further evaluations are made with diagnostic endoscopy procedures, flexible nasopharyngoscopy and videosingostroboscopy devices. For patients requiring advanced examination, our specialist doctors are examined and followed up according to their special interests such as otology and vertigo, nose and sinus diseases, sleep apnea-snoring, head and neck and thyroid cancer, swallowing and voice disorders. ENT examinations and small surgical interventions are carried out in our examination rooms located in the clinic of Dışkapı central building.
As a special branch outpatient clinic, 'Sleep Disorders Policlinic' on Mondays, 'Swallowing Policlinic' on Tuesdays (Audiology Unit), 'Otology Outpatient Clinic', and on Wednesday 'Head-Neck and Thyroid Cancer Outpatient Clinic' and 'Voice Policlinic' (Audiology Unit ') , services are provided on Thursdays at the "Rhinology Outpatient Clinic" and "Voice Prosthesis Outpatient Clinic" (Audiology Unit). According to 2018 data, the total number of outpatient clinics is 161915, and an average of 700-750 patients per day in polyclinics were looked after.
Operating Rooms: Surgical procedures are performed in 5 rooms in total, 4 in the central building and 1 in the Mevki building. All the surgeries of ENT and Head and Neck Surgery are carried out using all kinds of technology equipment, microscopes, HD endovision and navigation systems, nerve monitoring, laser and radiofrequency (Chronic otitis media surgery, cochlear implantation, acoustic tumor surgery, otosclerosis surgery, endoscopic sinus surgery, skull base (pituitary) surgery, rhinoplasty, nasal septum surgery and type surgery, head and neck cancers, thyroid gland benign diseases and cancers, all airway surgeries, larynx paralysis surgery, sound surgeries, snoring and sleep apnea, peripheral facial paralysis surgery, radiofrequency with soft tissue ablation and adenotonsillectomy). There are 8 nurses and 5 operating room technicians working in the operating room. According to 2018 data, the total number of operations varies between 4558 and the average number of operations per day varies between 20-25.
Audiology Unit:
A specialist audiologist, 11 audiometrists, 2 secretaries, 2 cleaning staff work in this unit. The audiology unit serves with 4 quiet cabins in the central campus and one quiet cabin in the Mevki building. ABR, ASSR, otoacoustic emission, VEMP, caloric test, video head impulse test and videonystagmography are performed as well as basic audiological tests performed over 100 per day. In this unit, specific outpatient services such as voice outpatient and swallowing outpatient are also provided. Cochlear implant training, sound therapy, sound prosthesis and swallowing rehabilitation are among the important services provided by this unit. We perform laryngeal interventions (injection laryngoplasty etc.) that can be done in the office environment in this unit. According to 2018 data, basic audiometric examination was performed on 9245 patients.
Clinical Training Program: Specialist training has been provided to 129 colleagues in our clinic since 1974. In our clinic, assistant training is provided simultaneously with health services. In our clinic, training seminars are held every Friday between 13: 30-16: 00 with the participation of educational staff, chief assistant, specialist and assistant doctors. A training visit is held between 7: 45-08: 30 on Monday mornings with all assistants, chief assistants, service specialists and training staff. On other days, training visits are held with the responsible education officer. Multidisciplinary councils are held on a weekly basis in our clinic. 'Sleep Disorders Council' on Friday, Chest Diseases Clinic, 'Surgery-Endocrinology-Nuclear Medicine-Pathology Council' on Wednesday, 'Head-Neck Tumor Council', Head Base Council 'from many departments and hospitals is carried out with the participant. Clinical Workflow Process: Polyclinics open at 07:30. Cleaning control, material and tool checks are made, deficiencies are completed. At 08:00, patients enter the outpatient clinic secretaries and get a queue number. At the same time, patient appointments are made on the internet. Outpatient services are provided between 08:30 and 16:30. The examination of the applicant patients is carried out by the assistant doctor under the supervision of a specialist and specialist doctor. Requested examinations are evaluated by the doctor. According to the patient's results, hospitalization, consultation and / or follow-up is recommended or prescribed. The patient is offered a hospitalization card and is directed to make an appointment to the service secretary. Every morning, patients who have an appointment that day are admitted by the service secretary. Preoperative examinations are completed. Patients' stories are taken by service doctors, and physical examinations are carried out. Patients and their relatives are informed by the doctor about their surgery and their consent is obtained. The patient is directed to service nurses. After the nurse forms are filled by the nurses, the patient is placed in the appropriate beds in the ward. Every morning between 08: 00-08: 30, a visit is made by the trainers. Inpatients are re-evaluated with the education staff.
Academic Studies and Projects :
According to the data at the end of 2014, our clinic is the most published ENT Clinic. Many projects / studies with TÜBİTAK and BAP support are still continuing in our clinic. There are 10 instructors and 2 chief assistants, 4 of whom are professors and 6 of them are associate professors. In addition, 14 assistants and 10 specialist doctors work. Our teachers also take an active role in scientific meetings outside the hospital. Our clinic hosts many live surgeries and symposiums, as well as actively participates in scientific activities. Our patients diagnosed with head and neck cancer are evaluated at a common tumor council attended by pathology, radiation oncology, medical oncology and radiology clinics and their treatments are planned.
Treatment alternatives including organ protection methods as well as surgical methods are discussed and disease-specific treatments are applied.
All rhinological surgical interventions are applied on the nose.
In addition, endoscopic pituitary and skull base surgery is applied jointly with the neurosurgery clinic.
Working with the Chest Diseases Clinic Sleep Laboratory in our hospital, snoring and obstructive sleep apnea patients are evaluated and treated by a council formed by ENT specialists and chest diseases specialists.
In the council, which is held with the participation of Endocrine, Pathology and Nuclear Medicine Clinics, the treatment of thyroid and parathyroid patients is planned and surgeries are performed in our clinic.
Patients with hearing loss are evaluated at the cochlear implant council and bionic ear (Cochlear implant) surgery is performed.
With the diagnosis of voice disorder, patients are evaluated by an ENT specialist and an audiologist, and their treatment is planned by performing videostroboscopic examinations and sound therapy is given when necessary.
For diagnosis and treatment of swallowing disorders, patients with FTR, Neurology and Head and Neck Cancer are observed under the supervision of an ENT specialist.
